How to Build a Niche Website in 2027: Pick a Niche and Build One
A niche website covers one narrow topic in depth, such as pool care, camping chairs or pour-over coffee, and earns from affiliate links, ads or its own products. To build one: score a few candidate niches on search demand, competition and commission rate, pick the one you can actually test, then publish a roundup and the reviews behind it before branching out. Below is a scoring table for 12 real niches with live data, and the build steps.
Question 01What is a niche website?
A niche website is a site that goes deep on one topic for one kind of reader, instead of covering everything. Most are content sites that earn through affiliate links, display ads, or eventually their own products.
Two working examples from our affiliate website examples research (DataForSEO estimates, US, October 2026):
- Swim University covers only pool and hot tub care. It gets an estimated 75,000 monthly Google visits, and its about page lists 4.5 million annual visitors, 195,000 email subscribers and 345,000 YouTube subscribers. It's run by its founder with "a small crew."
- CleverHiker covers hiking and camping gear. It gets an estimated 610,000 monthly Google visits, and every one of its top 25 pages is a "best X" roundup, led by best camping chairs at about 41,000 visits a month.
Both are proof that a focused site can outrank big publishers: for "best camping chairs," CleverHiker ranked first, above the New York Times, when we checked.
Part 02How to pick a niche: a scoring table
Score each candidate on three numbers: how many people search its main "best X" keyword, how hard that keyword is to rank for, and what Amazon pays in that category. Then add the one number only you know: can you buy and test the products?
| Niche | Main buying search | Monthly searches | Difficulty (0-100) | Amazon commission |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pour-over coffee makers | best pour over coffee maker | 5,400 | 0 | Kitchen 4.5% |
| Camping chairs | best camping chair | 8,100 | 7 | Outdoors 3% |
| Baby monitors | best baby monitor | 18,100 | 10 | Baby 3% |
| Electric toothbrushes | best electric toothbrush | 74,000 | 11 | Health & Personal Care 1% |
| Raised garden beds | best raised garden bed | 2,900 | 16 | Lawn & Garden 3% |
| Carry-on luggage | best carry on luggage | 40,500 | 18 | Luggage 4% |
| Robot vacuums | best robot vacuum | 49,500 | 24 | Home 3% |
| Running shoes | best running shoes | 60,500 | 28 | Shoes 4% |
| Gaming monitors | best gaming monitor | 33,100 | 30 | PC 2.5% |
| Dog food | best dog food | 33,100 | 31 | Pets 3% |
| Standing desks | best standing desk | 8,100 | 36 | Furniture 3% |
| Air fryers | best air fryer | 74,000 | 40 | Kitchen 4.5% |
Data: DataForSEO (US, October 2026) and Amazon's US commission schedule. Check the exact category of the products you'll review; commissions follow Amazon's category, not your niche name.
How to read it:
- Low difficulty with a decent rate is the sweet spot. Pour-over coffee makers (difficulty 0, 4.5%) and camping chairs (7, 3%) are easier entry points than air fryers (40) or standing desks (36).
- High volume doesn't mean high income. Electric toothbrushes have huge search volume, but Health & Personal Care pays 1%.
- The main keyword is only the start. In pour-over coffee alone, "pour over coffee ratio" gets about 6,600 searches and "pour over coffee vs french press" about 4,400. See keyword research for affiliate marketing.
Part 03Niche website ideas
Start from the table, then narrow:
- By user: camping chairs for heavy people, baby monitors for twins, running shoes for flat feet.
- By situation: coffee gear for small kitchens, carry-on luggage for budget airlines.
- By one product family: gooseneck kettles only, before expanding to all pour-over gear.
A good niche passes three checks: you can test the products, there are at least 20 buying questions to write about, and you'd still be interested after 50 posts.
Part 04How to build a niche website in 7 steps
- Score three candidate niches with the table above and pick one you can test.
- Build the site. In Votrix you describe it in one sentence ("a niche site that reviews pour-over coffee gear") and it proposes the structure first, then builds the homepage, category page, roundups, reviews, comparisons and the about, disclosure and privacy pages. Building is free within the free quota, hosting included, with a free subdomain; connecting your own domain or transferring one in is free, and you can download the full source code anytime. Self-hosted WordPress is the other common route. Compare options in our website builder guide.
- Publish the trust pages: about (who you are, how you test), affiliate disclosure, privacy policy.
- Write the first roundup for your main buying keyword, with your own photos and test results.
- Write the reviews and comparisons behind it, then two or three how-to pages that link to it.
- Join affiliate programs. Amazon gives you 180 days after applying to make three qualifying sales, and its help page suggests at least 10 posts of original content.
- Set up measurement: Google Search Console plus click tracking on your buttons.

Part 05How niche websites make money
| Model | How it works | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Affiliate links | Commission when readers buy through your links | CleverHiker (Amazon Associates, REI) |
| Display ads | Paid per impression; needs volume | Common on high-traffic informational sites |
| Your own products | Sell to the audience you built | Epic Gardening now sells its own raised garden beds |
| Memberships | Paid access to data or tools | RTINGS and Pack Hacker both offer memberships |
Most start with affiliate links, because they work from the first review.
Part 06How niche websites get traffic
- Google: specific buying searches first, then how-to searches that link to them.
- AI search: in our check of 30 buying searches, 22 showed an AI Overview, and more than half of the sites those Overviews cited weren't in Google's top 10. Answer directly, use tables and include your own test data to get cited.
- Pinterest and YouTube: both allow affiliate links within their rules and send traffic to evergreen reviews.
- Email: Amazon allows its links in emails to opted-in subscribers.
Keeping all of that going is the hard part of a niche site. Votrix runs it after launch: keyword research and competitor analysis for your niche, a baseline of how AI search mentions you, posts written and published, social media scripts, images, videos and captions published automatically, emails sent automatically, and diagnosis and review of what worked. The site's built-in data shows which pages send clicks to the retailer.

Quick answersFrequently asked questions
No. Independent review sites held 84 of 267 organic positions (31%) in our check of 30 buying searches, more than any other group, and 41% of the top-3 spots. Thin niche sites built on copied or mass-produced content are what stopped working.
It depends on traffic, conversion and commission rate, and most site owners don't publish figures. As a sense of scale: at a 3% commission, $1,000 a month in commissions means readers buying about $33,000 of products through your links.
A smaller slice of a niche, for example gooseneck kettles instead of all coffee gear. It's easier to cover completely, and you can expand once it ranks.
Niche.com is a school and college search site, so Google treats "niche website" as a search for that brand. If you're researching how to build one, search "what is a niche website" or "how to build a niche website."
