How to Build an Amazon Affiliate Website That Gets Approved (2027)

By Votrix AI Editorial Team7 min read
Short answer

An Amazon affiliate website doesn't need to be big to get approved. It needs it to be public, full of original content, clearly disclosed, and able to send three qualifying sales within 180 days of applying. Build the site to that standard first, then apply, then focus on those three sales. This guide quotes Amazon's own Associates pages throughout, because most of the rules people repeat online are second-hand.

How to Build an Amazon Affiliate Website That Gets Approved (2027)

Part 01Amazon affiliate website requirements

These come from the Associates Program Policies and help pages, checked in October 2026.

Requirement What Amazon says How to meet it
Original content "Your Site(s) must contain original content and be publicly available via the website address provided in the application." Reviews and guides you wrote, from your own use of the products
Enough content "All Sites must have robust original content... a good rule of thumb is at least 10 posts." Publish 10 or more real posts before you apply
Public access They "should not be a closed group, or behind a paywall." No login wall, no "coming soon" page
Third-party material Must contain "significant commentary, analysis, or transformation." Don't paste manufacturer specs or Amazon descriptions as your content
Three sales in 180 days "Once you've applied, you have 180 days to refer a sale... Once you have referred three qualifying sales, we'll evaluate your application." Personal orders don't count. Plan your traffic before you apply (section 7)
Disclosure The exact line "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." shown clearly on your site Put it near your links and on a disclosure page
No Amazon in your domain Unsuitable sites include those with Amazon trademarks or misspellings in the domain or subdomain Don't name the site "amazon-kettle-reviews"

If you don't make three qualifying sales in 180 days, the application is withdrawn and the account closed. Amazon can't reinstate it, but you can apply again.

Part 02Choose how to build it

Any builder works if it gives you a public site with original content. Your choice comes down to cost, how fast you can publish reviews, and whether you want help with traffic.

Option Cost Good for
Votrix $0 to build, hosting included; usage-based after the free quota One-sentence build, review pages generated in bulk, free subdomain, own domain connects free, no ads, SEO, GEO and social media running after launch
WordPress (self-hosted) Hosting from $2.49/mo on a 48-month Hostinger term, renewing at $10.99/mo Full control; plugins for Amazon product boxes
Blogger $0, plus a domain A simple blog with HTML editing

Can you apply on a free subdomain like blogspot.com? Amazon's rules don't list free subdomains as unsuitable. A domain you own is still the safer choice and costs about $10 to $20 a year. For a fuller comparison see the best website builder for affiliate marketing.

Part 03How to create an Amazon affiliate website, step by step

Step 1: Pick a niche with a decent commission rate

Amazon pays a fixed rate by category. Check yours before you commit:

Category Commission
Luxury Beauty, Amazon Explore 10%
Digital music, physical music, Handmade, digital videos 5%
Physical books, Kitchen, Automotive 4.5%
Apparel, Luggage, Shoes, Watches, Jewelry, Amazon devices 4%
Toys, Furniture, Home, Lawn & Garden, Pets, Headphones, Beauty, Outdoors, Tools, Sports, Baby 3%
PC, PC components, DVD & Blu-ray 2.5%
Televisions, digital video games 2%
Grocery, Health & Personal Care, physical video games and consoles 1%
All other categories 4%

A $150 kettle in Kitchen earns $6.75. The same price in Televisions earns $3.

Step 2: Build the site and the required pages

You need a homepage, a category page, your first roundup, the reviews behind it, and three trust pages: about, affiliate disclosure, privacy policy. Our build guide covers each page.

Step 3: Publish at least 10 posts before you apply

That's Amazon's own rule of thumb. A good first ten: one roundup, six reviews of products in it, and three comparisons or how-tos that link to the roundup.

Step 4: Apply to Amazon Associates

Sign up at affiliate-program.amazon.com and list your website's exact URL. If you also want to promote on social media, Amazon accepts Facebook pages and open groups (not personal profiles), Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Twitch, listed by the exact page URL.

Signed in, go to any product page on Amazon and use SiteStripe at the top: click "Get Link: Text." Amazon-shortened links are fine. Third-party shorteners are allowed only if it stays clear the link goes to Amazon: you "will not use a link shortening service... in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site."

Step 6: Add the disclosure

Place "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." where readers will see it. The FTC also wants a disclosure close to the recommendation, and says "Paid link" next to a link should be adequate.

Step 7: Get three sales within 180 days

See section 7.

Don't Amazon's wording
Put links in offline or downloadable material You will not promote "in any offline manner," including any Special Link "in connection with any printed material, ebook, mailing"
Hard-code prices Prices and availability must come from Amazon links or its APIs, not typed into your page
Copy Amazon reviews or star ratings You won't display "any of our customer reviews or star ratings" unless obtained through Creators API or PA API
Disguise Amazon links No shorteners or buttons "in a manner that makes it unclear that you are linking to an Amazon Site"
Count your own orders "Personal orders do not qualify" toward the three sales

What's allowed that people often assume isn't: Amazon links in emails to subscribers who opted in.

On cookies: you earn on purchases made within 24 hours of the click, and on items added to the cart in that session and bought within 89 days.

Part 05What commission rates mean for your niche

The 3% to 4.5% range covers most physical products. To earn $1,000 a month at 3%, readers need to buy about $33,000 worth of products through your links. That's why the sites in our affiliate website examples add other retailers, memberships or their own products once they grow. Start with Amazon because it converts well and carries everything, then add specialist programs in your niche.

Part 06Amazon Storefront vs your own Amazon affiliate website

Amazon Influencer Storefront Your own website
Who it's for Social media creators with a qualifying following Anyone who publishes original content
Where it lives A page on Amazon.com Your own domain
Traffic comes from Your social accounts Google, AI search, Pinterest, email, social
What you control Product lists and short content Everything: reviews, tests, comparisons, design
Other programs Amazon only Any affiliate program

Amazon describes the Influencer Program as "an extension to the existing online Associates program for qualifying social media influencers." If you don't have a following, the website is the route.

Part 07Getting the first three sales

Three sales in 180 days is a traffic problem. The pages that sell soonest are the most specific ones: "best pour-over kettle for beginners" converts better than "coffee gear."

  • Long-tail searches: reviews and comparisons of specific models are easier to rank for than broad roundups.
  • Pinterest and Reddit: both allow affiliate links within their rules, and they can send visitors while Google catches up.
  • Your email list: Amazon allows its links in emails to opted-in subscribers.

This is where Votrix keeps working after the site is built. AI automation runs keyword research and competitor analysis for your niche, records how AI search mentions you, writes and publishes posts, then diagnoses and reviews the results. On social media it writes scripts, makes images, videos and captions, and publishes them. The built-in data shows button clicks, so you can see which review sends readers to Amazon.
